E3: Playstation 4 Games

Roughly two weeks have passed since E3.  Most of the fallout from the presentations is over and the chance for a first impression has long since passed.  The general consensus of internet denizens is that Sony walked away the clear winner.  Personally for me Sony has been the caretaker of the more mature Japanese game market of which I am a fan.  During the Xbox 360 era this didn’t really matter, but in light of all the missteps Microsoft made in the last few weeks Sony be the one getting my money next.  Here are some of the announced games that I will be following:

Kingdom Hearts III

Been waiting for a long time for this one.  In case you are not familiar this is an unusual partnership between Square Enix & Disney.  There has been some issues with the mobile versions of this franchise and the story hasn’t always been the most straightforward, but KH is a classic and worth your time regardless of age.

Final Fantasy XV

Fans have long felt the Final Fantasy formula was getting tired and Square Enix knew they needed to change things up after the heavy criticism over the linear gameplay of Final Fantasy XIII.  To be fair, it is probably time to shake things up a little once you have hit your thirteenth iteration.  (Fourteenth if you consider their ill received MMO)  The game originally started life as Final Fantasy Versus XIII and languished in development since 2006.  The team decided to renew their efforts and renamed the game.  The results and art direction are impressive and I am inspired to play again.

Infamous: Second Son

The Infamous franchise by Sucker Punch has always been a decent but not quite ever achieving greatness.  The studio has shown a willingness to make strong improvements and the second game benefited greatly from the lessons learned from the first.  If the third game makes an equally great leap then we are in for something special.
