E3: Xbox One Games

I realize that E3 is quickly becoming a distant memory and hearts and minds are turning to the holiday season and their imminent console releases but we need to finish talking about the most important part of the conference, the games.  Here are three that I am excited about.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

I am probably going to catch some flak for this one.  I am on record as holding up the Call of Duty franchise as being the prime example of what is wrong with the video game industry.  I am not a big multiplayer guy.  I love local coop, but haven’t been able to get into multiplayer despite many attempts to do so.  What I am hoping for with Ghosts is a rich story and single player experience.  Plus, I want to play as Call of Duty Dog.

The biggest contender for the Call of Duty throne comes from Respawn Entertainment, who happen to be the guys who were in charge of the original Call of Duty franchise.  They have a lot to prove and took a lot of talent with them when they left Infinity Ward. (technically fired)  I am a sucker for giant robots and power suits, so this may be good.

Mirror’s Edge 2

The original Mirror’s Edge was one of my favorite games of the last generation.  Daring and beautiful they took some risks that paid off critically but not commercially.  The game wasn’t perfect, but was a joy to watch and play.  It had an unusual art aesthetic, sort of a squeaky clean dystopia.  Fans have been crying out for more and it looks like we are getting our wish.
