Pseudo Review: Flesh for the Beast

A couple of years ago I went to a panel with Michael Sinterniklaas at Anime Boston. I went to the panel mainly because I am a huge Venture Brothers fan and I generally find voice actors to be some of the most pleasant and intelligent celebrities I have ever come across. He briefly mentioned a horror film he was a part of but was obviously a bit embarassaed about it. Since he really dug my wife’s use of the word ‘rad’ during the panel I felt confident enough to ask him about it.

Turns out Mike was in ‘Flesh for the Beast’ 2003 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372921/ At the time I stumbled a bit with him because I was a bit ashamed I hadn’t heard of it. My horror knowledge is decent, so I assumed I would know his obscure film bit and possibly had seen it. Well, it was more recent than I realized and I hadn’t seen it. End of conversation, followup emails by crazy fan boy were not answered.

By the magic of the internets I now have ‘Flesh for the Beast’ playing on my Xbox 360 via Netflix on demand. It’s fun and dumb and I easily predicted the first death, but Sinterniklass has a geeky charisma that outshines the material. Plus his characters name is Shelly, which is about twelve different types of awesome.

Watching the opening credits we find out that the majestic Caroline Munro http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0613098/ is in this sucker too. Caroline was in ‘the Golden Voyage of Sinbad’, was the first woman ever killed by James Bond and was the female lead in ‘Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter’ one of the greatest Hammer films ever.

I don’t normally review films before I finish them, but it’s late and I won’t have the energy to do this afterward. Since the film so far is very, very silly I probably won’t have much more to say anyway.

Buckethead does the soundtrack. Such a collision of excellence and complete goofiness. Like drinking a fine wine with Velveeta.

Oh, by the way. Love the Slayer hat dude.
